In separate words, their classificati on did not match their true behavior. III. Considering the various point of views presented, I would say that adopting a typology for the Philippine HEIs is sound exactly I agree with the flavor of Fr. Roderick Salazar when he verbalize that we mustinessiness unendingly be sensible and paying attention to see that the typology we are utilise is not final and straight. because, it must not be used straight way as it is as stem for planning. We should be watchful and a conduct free-spoken in qualification our own revisions or modifications for such classification in edict to tailor-fit it to the involve of our local anesthetic HEIs. This is considering what approximately of the experts, both locals and foreigners have accounted, that is, the Carnegie 2000 has its own set of flaws or weaknesses which showed up since its screening in the united States. As a result, it yielded galore(postnominal) criticisms or disconfirming expositions done the years. I too a gree with some other comment Fr.Salazar gave when he reminded the discussants in one of the fora he tended to(p) that at some point, alternatively of provided guidance on rationalizing our higher education, our HEIs should instead get in the job of creation and comely what the institution was ear compriser called to be. Dr. Bernardo likewise had a similar opinion when he tell that the concern does not lie practically on how CHED rationalizes the university clay by type however more on the quality of that HEI. It unfeignedly does not issuance whether an institution is a doctorial investigate University, a change institution a technical/ country College or a friendship College. If it is smooth in doing what it should be doing, thusly so be it. Otherwise, all it has to do is to act to try out to alter in all aspects. most give instructions in the Philippines digress real modestly and pay back into institutions that at long last develop and turn out to make what our country utterly necessarily at that exceptional(prenominal) time considering its reputation or resources. A real reasoned example of this is the UP Los Banos, which up to present, continues to al cover not only the countrys untaught unavoidably yet plane those of our conterminous countries of necessity as well.We cannot abnegate the fact that our Philippine HEIs have a lot of progression to put up with save the way this outcomes and typology is proposed, it would buckle under much disappointments and negativity in the higher education fellowship if such a system as the Carnegie is to be introduced as it is. It would be outperform to introduce it prospectively for all forward-looking colleges and all new universities. It would besides be stabilising to allow several models of universities, and not just the one-size-fits-all university type which in fact doesnt fit numerous long-practicing universities in the country.Dr. Allan Bernardo understandably explained on how the granting of the HEI types, would be realizable to evaluate the HEI outputs ground on HEI types. Schools would contract their types ground on the review of their own respective missions. A school which primarily aims to march found on a mission to respond to the inescapably of an LGU confederacy would subscribe to be a residential district college. A school that was created to significantly kick down to the development of technical skills of our race would make to be a master college. Thus, the resulting outputs of a particular HEI establish on type would be a result of realigning itself as stated on its mission/vision. Because of this, those institutions who would like to accent on maestro development neednot worry closely research and research publication in peer-reviewed journals. Therefore investments in institutional development would be best(p) position base on type/classification. The output quality would then be metrical concord to the inputs concord to type. mind would be low-spirited and confusing. This education sector implicated would as a result translate to fabricate what in the beginning it was called and created to be, that is an splendiferous HEI. scarcely qualification use of parameters such as how many laboratories are existing, academic degrees, facilities that are inputted into an instructional system as the main whoreson for measureing an institutional type, is by all odds not a rattling genuine footing for classification. unitary has to take the gravel to assess an instructional system in terms of what it really produces, not on a one-time study, precisely it has to be a long-run judicial decision if it wishes to be accurate and reliable.

Writing To Entertain - Commentary Essay Example for Free

Writing To Entertain Commentary EssayThe piece entitled Lets Talk About enkindle is a piece written to simply entertain its audience. The textbook is in no way formal or serious, as it is written for a mens time and deals with modern issues in a modern way.The lecturers of this text are intended to be predominantly male between the ages of 16 and 35. The ideal reader of this text would be a stereotypical man who is accounting for a light read during his lunch break at the office. The text itself is very euphoric, and arouses many emotions in the reader as he/she progresses through the article. For lawsuit, sympathy arises within the reader when they read the opening paragraph (Tuesday, and I pace up and down the choke up of my.). Sympathy is created here as the audience can relate to what the author is experiencing, there is no cardinal I can think of who hasnt been set a task of which they do not know how to complete. Sympathy is excessively created in this paragraph when the reader discovers the authors job severely lacks excitement. The judgment of conviction, A couple of hours pass and Ive had no progress, still behind the bar, still waiting for a customer to lighten up my day, uses repetition to emphasise the boredom that I used to go through whilst stood at that bar. Once again, this allows the audience to connect with the text as most people have had a desire, laborious day at work at some point or another. These negative emotions are short lived however, as excitement is created by the use of the metaphor, Like a chicken in a slaughter house, suddenly realising its purpose in life. This crude sense of humour is very male and was used with the intention of capturing the right target audience. The text continues to sour human emotions to capture its audience throughout. The style of the text is obviously informal it is designed to be the sort of read a man would want to realize him down to earth after a day in a busy working environment. I did this in several ways.Firstly, I avoided using long and heavy sentences. All the sentences that I used were very pithy, having an intended meaning without dragging on. The use of short sentences and paragraphs makes the text very fast paced and snappy, so that the reader is not bogged down with thoughts about how a specific sentence is supposed to be interpreted and thus keeping the readers interest alive throughout the immaculate article.Frameworking was especially important to consider whilst writing this text. The lexis used could not be complicated, as the target audience would not appreciate confusing words, which they may or may not understand. The use of much exaggeration was implemented to keep the excitement flowing, thus entertaining the audience further. You can see the use of hyperbole in the sentence, With sheer determination, and the risk of handing in my coursework late, I give a mighty roar and run into the abyss.Semantics and Pragmatics were also used through out the text. For example, in the sentence that I described above (With sheer determination, and the risk), the obvious meaning is that I actually roared and ran into a smoke filled field of battle. The harsh reality of this is that I was actually telling myself to ignore the stigmas attached to online dating, but the pragmatics of the sentence keep the article witty and humorous, which in my opinion are key aspects of writing to entertain. To look at another example of semantics versus pragmatics, you can observe the use of socialect in the text. Words such as Whack are used to emphasise pace, frivol away such as crap are used to connect with the audiences way of speaking, and to make them feel more at home with the text.As I mentioned at the start of this commentary, the article is very euphoric. This was purposely done to help the audience to connect with the piece. For example, when I discovered that one of my contacts was nothing like what I had expect her to be, I make sure t hat I emphasised the shock I experienced in my writing. Click the link and Holy Crap Shes Huge. I also decided to defy the laws of English language here and use a little graphology to replace them. Instead of using one capital H for the word Holy, I decided to capitalise the start of each word to emphasise this shock.Connecting with the audience is a major part of entertaining, so I made sure I did lots of it. To tighten the knot between reader and text, I decided to throw in a little sarcasm and caustic remark (attributes which are constantly used by todays comedians), just for good measure. Sarcasm is used to deceive the audience, and then surprise them with something they did not expect. A good example of this is clear in the sentences, I get through the door of my 4 bedroom house and receive a warm welcome. Washing up postulate doing you lazy arse.Irony is used to get the audience to sympathise with what I was going through at the time. Everybody knows that when you type somet hing as simple as Online Dating Agencies into google.com, youre going to get millions of results. But by ignoring this fact and doing it anyway, I could develop irony and make the reader of the text scream out clamorously you should of known that was going to happen.I have many hopes for this piece of writing. Firstly, I obviously hope it gets me a good grade, but I also hope that it achieves its aim to entertain, without being superficial. Unfortunately, due to a series of nasty illnesses on my part and some mix-ups with teachers, I was unable to accompany this text with the graphology I had planned due to time constraints. I had planned to set this article into a replica of a page in the best selling (and one of my personal favourites) mens magazine FHM. Despite this, I have thoroughly enjoyed writing this piece, and hope you have had as much pleasure in reading it.

Relationships Between Society and Religion Essay Example for Free

Relationships Between Society and Religion EssayThe relationship between piety and society has provided the counsel for some of the greatest works of sociology (one thinks of Durkheim, Pargonto, and Weber, as well as Marx and Parsons). Samuel Delbert, a Canadian sociologist, rebelled against what he saw as the static concerns of American sociologists, trained his look on the process of social change, and placed the believe of holiness as a major item on the agenda of social analysis in Canada. In three important works, Clark argues that the changing building of religious organization provided a measure of the pace and character of social change. Clark undoubtedly made the study of religion an important topic in Canadian sociology. At the same time, however, his work intended to limit the range of sociological concerns by linking the study of religion to questions of the establishs of religious organization and politics (Artibise, 1990).The Essence of Religion In order to f urther understand the context between the relationship between religion and society, it becomes clarify only after we have determined the basic essence of religion, that which is common to them all. Many different attempts to conceptualize the essence of religions have been made. These definitions usually reflect the point of view of the defining subject more than the essence of the defined object. When, for instance, Immanuel Kant defines religion as the fulfillment of all of our duties as divine commands, this doesnt reflect the essence of religion which is concerned with a completely different sphere, but rather the rationalistic standpoint of Kant, for whom religion is essentially theonomic ethics. Often the essence of a specific diachronic religion is held up as the ideal and norm for all religion (Mensching, 1976). Prophecy presupposes a relationship between religion and society that conflicts profoundly with ceremonious religion.Established religion sees religion as the sa cred ideology of the established social order. It is the handmaiden of the ruling class. It pronounces the established social order to be created by God and to be a reflection of the divine will (Riemer, 1996). The Founding Fathers In their sociological writing, Marx, Weber, and Durkheim were responding to the economic and social changes of the 19th and early 20th centuries, well-timed(a) more often than not by the disastrous effects that fleeting industrialization had imposed on the European community of which they were sector. The course of religion could scarce be averted with this foundation, for religion was seen as an important area of the society that seemed to be shifting beyond identification. By at least a period, Karl Marx (1818-83) predates the other. There are known two important factors in the Marxist thoughts on religion The first is descriptive, the second evaluative. His dependent variable is religion in other words, its structure and nature are liable on social an d most importantly economic relations, which constitute the foundation of social examination. It can never be soundless separate from the economic form and the association of the capitalist or worker to the basis of formulation. The second factor connects from this however, has an assessing component. Religion is said to be a form of indifference or alienation it is a symptom of social malformation which masks the exploitative relationships of capitalist society. Religion persuades people that such relationships are natural and, therefore, acceptable. It follows that the real(a) causes of social distress cannot be tackled until the religious element in society is stripped away to reveal the injustices of the capitalist system everything else is a distraction. Subsequent debates concerning Marx/s approach to religion have to be approached with care. It has become increasingly difficult to distinguish between (a) Marxs own analysis of religious phenomena, (b) a posterior school of M arxism as a form of sociological thinking, and (c) what has occurred in the twentieth century in the name of Marxism as a political ideology. The essential and brook point to grasp from Marx himself us that religion cannot be understood apart from the world of which it is a part this is a crucial sociological insight and cardinal to the evolution of the sub discipline. It needs, however, to be distinguished from an over deterministic interpretation of Marx that postulates the dependence of religion on economic forces in mechanical terms this is unhelpful. The closing point is more political. It may indeed be the case that one function of religion is to mitigate the very evident hardships of this world and so disguise them.

Typical Stereotypes Of Males And Females

Typical Stereotypes Of Males And FemalesWhat defines males from females? Many times people can name a government agency many physical characteristics that guide to be normally known differences between males and females. For example males tend to take a crap some of the following-shorter hair, wear looser fitting clothing, shorter fingernails, chest hair, facial hair, much bodily hair in general, taller, stronger, deeper voice, thicker skin, more physically aggressive and more physical jobs (such as, mining, construction, farming, surgeons and engineering). Whereas, women tend to give up some of the following-longer hair, wear tighter fitting clothing, longer fingernails, less bodily hair, average height, higher return voice, softer/thinner skin, express emotions openly and tend to have jobs helping people (nurses) or grazeing with children (day disquiet, teacher). These physical characteristics are non the only thing that whitethorn differentiate males and females there are many other characteristics that may also be present. However, I non only think of these characteristics notwithstanding also near stumps that are set for males and females. I check these stereotypes as follows females tend to be stay at radical moms, taking/caring for children and others, and in charge of the fellowship snip. Whereas, males tend to be the ones who are out and off doing the farm work or having a job to bring home the money and are consider the protectors of their family or over others. These stereotypes are shown with the differences in males and females in the following two short stories which are The cavalry Dealers missy by D.H. Lawrence and The Chrysanthemums by John Steinbeck. The Horse Dealers Daughter by D.H. Lawrence is around a girl, Mabel, who lives at home with her three brothers. They are all sitting around the table after their fathers death, which leftfield them in major(ip) debt. However, Mabels brothers are able to go off and find work wherea s Mabel is in a predicament on what to do. (All she has ever known is taking care of the house and fulfilling that role of her mother after she had died.) The stereotypes I have stated earlier are shown throughout this short story with the differences between males and females.Mabels brothers were able to go off and find a job and are able to bring home money for themselves. As Lawrence states, Joe was luckilyengaged to a woman as senile as himself, and therefore her father, who was steward of a neighboring estate, would provide him with a job (p. 235). Since they know what they are doing with their life this leaves her brothers concerned close what she is sacking to do because they got to be out by Wednesday (p. 237). They bring up the option of Mabel going and staying with their sister, Lucy because as her brother Fred states, I dont see what else you can do (p. 236). Implying that it isnt common for women to go out and have jobs, like men do, to bring home money. However, going to live with her sister, Lucy, is not what Mabel wants to do. She wants to stay at the house and continue to be the motherly figure, along with taking of others, her brothers, with doing the home plate chores. Even though the house was considerationless now, and desolate (empty) (p. 239). Meaning that she would not have anyone to care for but herself. She is still use to doing those household chores. Lawrence explains this as he states, she began putting the dishes together (p. 238). Mabel came in again, to finish clearing the table (p. 239) and she folded the white table-cloth, and put on the chenille cloth (p. 239). All of these go along with the characteristic women stereotype that they are in charge of the housework and keeping things tidy for the others.Even though Mabels life consisted of this work and fell under the female stereotype, she still felt established, proud and reserved, so long as there was money (p. 240). However, now that there was no money delinquent to t he debt they were left in, Mable had become threaten with what she was going to do with her life. Because she had kept house for ten yearskeeping the home together in (penury) for her (ineffectual) brothers (p. 240). But now Mabel had been servant less in the big house for months (p. 240) and not knowing what to do. The debt has caused her to lose all her confidence, of how eventful the housework (she did) really was. Which is shown when Lawrence states, the sense of money had kept her proud, positive (p. 240).With them being in debt and only knowing the housework, this had brought the endfor Mabel (p. 240) Meaning that Mabel did not see any good in her life anymore because she did not have the household chores to do or the opportunity to take care of others. This causes her to decide the best thing for her would to be dead along with her mother. This is shown as Lawrence explains how Mable walked slowly and designedly towards the center of the pond, very slowly, gradually moving deeper into the motionless water, and still moving forward as the water got up to her breast. Then he (Dr. Jack Furguson) see her no more in the dusk of the dead afternoon (p. 243).As Dr. Jack Furguson watches her slowly try and kill herself he feels the need to do something about it. This is where the male stereotype of being the protectors of their family and others comes into play and being present in Dr. Jack Furguson. Males have the tendency to feel and provide protection over their family and others but also are tend to known to be stronger than females, which is shown as Lawrence describes the following about Dr. Jack Furguson. Dr. Jack Furguson went into the pond after Mabel to save and protect her. Lawrence states, he slowly ventured into the pond (p. 243) he went very slowly, carefully, absorbed in the slow progress. He rose higher, climbing out of the pond. The water was now only about his legs he was thankful, full of relief to be out of the clutches of the pond. He lif ted her and staggered onto the bank, out of the horror of wet, grey clay (p. 244).After Dr. Jack Furguson protected her life he took her back to get her out of her wet clothes and to get her warmed up. As he removed her saturated, earthy-smelling clothing, rubbed her dry with a towel, and clothed her naked in the blankets (p. 245), he did it out of protecting her and saving her, but also because he is a doctor and the need he feels to help others due to his profession. However, the male stereotype of being protective of their family and others caused a problem between Mabel and Dr. Jack Furguson. Mabel didnt see him as just being protective but as him doing this because of the love he felt for her. This resulted her and believing that he loved her and her having that feeling of being able to take care of and do housework for someone again. The Horse Dealers Daughter by D.H. Lawrence showed many different examples of the stereotypes between males and females. These stereotypes explici tly show us the gender differences between two people. Another short story that shows us gender differences between two people is The Chrysanthemums by John Steinbeck. The Chrysanthemums not only shows gender differences but also how the male and female stereotypes are not always true or accurate. As in The Horse Dealers Daughter, besides the housework that is a typical stereotype for females, there is also the garden work that they tend to do. This is shown in the short story The Chrysanthemums. As Elisa works in her garden with her chrysanthemums it is seen how this is her pride and joy just as the housework was for Mabel. Steinbeck shows how important Elisas gardening is to her as he describes all the time that she spends there. For example, cutting the old, getting the new crop ready and how to care for them. As Steinbeck states, Its the budding that takes the most care (p. 444).Elisas chrysanthemums is what she cares about and what she wants to take care of just as Mabel wanted to be able to do housework and take care of others, her brothers. Not only was the stereotype for the females shown in this short story but also for males. This is shown first as her husband had asked her if she wanted to go out to eat for dinner but and then after that if she wanted to go the fights. Males wanting to watch and go to the fights can be related to their more physically aggressive behavior and how they find the fights to be appealing to them. Not only does her husband have somewhat of a stereotype of males but so does the guy who stops and duologue to her on his way by.The man came off with having at least one of the physical characteristics of males such as being tall, strong and a man who works to bring home the money. This is shown as Steinbeck states, Elisa saw that he was a very big man. The calloused hands he rested on the wire fence were cracked, and both(prenominal) crack was a black line (p. 441). The man made general conversation with Elisa but then begin to tell her about what he does for work and how he is looking for work to do in order to bring home the money for his food. As Steinbeck states, Maybe you noticed the writing on my wagon, I mend pots and sharpen knives and scissors. You got any of them things to do? (p. 442). Elisa goes on to tell the man that she doesnt as she continues to work with her chrysanthemums. Then the man states how this is his job and needing the work by saying, I aint had a thing to do today. Maybe I wont have no supper tonight (p. 442).The previous sentence shows how work and obstetrical delivery home the money for food or care for himself, family or others is very important to men and goes along with their stereotype of being workers and typically protective and in charge of making sure everyone gets what they need in life. As they continue on with their conversation and the man finds some common ground, her plants, to talk to her about he is slowly able to convince her of giving into him. He asks f or some plants and then for a pot to fix too. With females falling under the stereotype that they do, Elisa wants to be able to take care of others so she ends up feeling sorry for the man and gives him some of her chrysanthemums and a pot.Even though Elisa falls into the typical female stereotype she is still able to move beyond these gender roles. This is shown later in the short story when Elisa and her husband are going to go out to eat and she wants wine at dinner. This is not the only thing that shows Elisa moving beyond her gender roles but also when she talks to Henry, her husband, about the fights and states, Well, Ive read how they break noses, and blood runs down their chests. Ive read how the fighting gloves get heavy and soggy with blood (p. 448). This statement is showing her going beyond her gender roles because most females typically are not interested in fighting, weather that be watching it or reading about it.In conclusion, both short stories The Horse Dealers Dau ghter and The Chrysanthemums portray gender differences by the authors using examples that relate to the typical stereotypes seen in males and females. The issues the authors portray of the societies describes how most people tend to have these male and female stereotypes and that these are what most people tend to believe and follow and think or relate too. However, as in The Chrysanthemums these stereotypes for males and females are not always true for everyone.
